The last game of the Day 1 Group Stages is upon us, and for the majority of players watching it was the most exciting and surprising game throughout the whole Group Stages of DreamHack Summer. The matchup featured Team Stay Green Vs. VDT, with SG being the obvious favor, considering they have won over 52 tournament matches in a row, an unheard of record in the gaming industry. While VDT is a good HoN team, qualifying for DreamHack after winning the Swedish Pride Cup, nobody expected them to pull off results like this (4-1 in the group stages), especially after replacing a player in their roster just days before the start of DreamHack 2013.
|Hellbourne – VDT|
|Legion – Team Stay Green|
Both teams take all five of their heroes to the bottom lane, attempting to get a kill on one of the enemy heroes before the creeps spawn. The Legion side, not expecting to have five enemies in their jungle at level one, spread out a little bit. The Hellbourne side find Deadwood and are able to firstblood him due to the Legion not being grouped up, and the lack of crowd control their heroes provide at level one (Ophelia and Warbeast are next to useless, and DW can only throw a log). Empath takes credit for the firstblood, while MoA follows up soon after with a team kill on Torturer. Legion backs off, and the game begins!
Gemini takes solo top, versus a suicide War Beast and an aggreisve Jungle Opehlia. Torturer is put solo bot against a trilane of MoA, Magmus and Empath, while Rally is sent mid against a Deadwood/Engineer lane.
After diving the tower to secure a kill on Torturer, the Hellbourne decide to roam their Empath and MoA, setting up multiple kills at the mid and top lane, forcing Opehlia out of their jungle. Warbeast, now faced against a pseudo trilane, has to stay back, giving Gemini complete free farm for the first 20 minutes of the game. At mid lane, we see Deadwood and Engineer set up multiple kills against Rally and the roaming Empath, securing Deadwood a Serial Killer streak and 400 GPM by the 10 minute mark. Knowing they have the power of Opehlia and Warbeast, the Legion team push middle and bot tower, evening out the gold and experience leads.
Twentytwo minutes in, both teams get ready for their first teamfight at the top tower. Deadwood jumps in on Empath, one shotting her with his PK/Bulwark. In response, the Hellbourne jump on Deadwood, and his team rush to help him, but unfortunately clump up while doing so, enabling Magmus to hit a four man stun/ulti combination, with Rally following up with his ultimate. Team Stay Green gets wiped, save for War Beast, while the only casuality for VDT is their Empath player.
The game is quiet for 10 minutes, both teams busy farming (I believe VDT took five triple-stackd ancients in the first 25 minutes of the game). Legion allows Hellbourne to get Kongor uncontested, opting to destroy the tier one tower top as a trade. 30 minutes in, Pewe, playing Gemini, has farmed an Energizer, Nullstone and Geometer's, making him the top farmer in the game. Thirtyfive minutes in, the Hellbourne team attempts Kongor again, but finds an Opehlia and Engineer counter warding. Picking them off, they go for mid lane, destroying the 2nd and 3rd tier tower, then backing up to Kongor before they attempt to take a rax. Kongor dies, Gemini picks up token, and both teams avoid eachother for a few more minuites.
39 minutes in, Hellbourne plays aggresive, going through the Legion jungle to find Opehlia who is at the closest creep camp next to her tower. Torturer has Grimoire and Shrunken, Ophelia has Barrier Idol and Astrolabe. Moa goes full support with Tablet, Storm Spirit, Astrolabe and Eye, while Magmus has PK, Shrunken and Sheepstick. Opehlia gets caught, and Engi goes in to help, but feeds. The Hellbourne team slowly pushes up the Legion base, waiting for the creepwave, and quickly takes down the Melee and Ranged raxes. Once down, they dive the Legion under their World Tree, and then their fountain, getting several kills while losing none of their own. GGs are called by the Legion team, but the concede vote was not passed, and members of the Hellbourne team die after messing around, assuming the game was over.
The game drags on for a few minutes, until a fight near Kongor happens. Deadwood and Engi initiate on Gemini, but can't kill him do to his Nullstone, Shrunken and a constant 522 MS. Meanwhile, Magmus is channeling his ultimate, and lands a stun + ulti combo on Deadwood and Engi. They fall, and the rest of their team follows suit. 46 minutes in, GGs are called once more, and the concede vote passes.
VDT defeats SG, and ends the first day of Group Stages with a 4-1 score. Congratulations VDT! They have ended SG's 52 game win streak, and created quite the name for themselves with the other matches they have played during the Group Stages.
